What’s for Dinner? A deli-style Reuben: From The News Journal

“‘Where’s a good New York-style deli?” is a question that sometimes appears in the Dish column in Friday’s 55 Hours.

One of the toughest is the deli question because Delaware, in recent years, hasn’t been a New York-deli kind of place. We do, however, excel at subs and cheesesteaks.

But why not make a Reuben sandwich, a blend of deli fillings and sweet, sour and salty flavors, at home? According to Elena Rosemond-Hoerr and Caroline Bretherton, authors of “The American Cookbook” (DK Publishing, 2014), the Reuben sandwich was supposedly invented by Arnold Reuben of Reuben’s Delicatessin New York City or Reuben Kulaskofsky, a Nebraska grocer.”
